Actor Darshan Granted Bail for Surgery Amid Renukaswamy Murder Case

The Karnataka High Court has granted interim bail to Kannada actor Darshan Thoogudeepa, who is currently detained in connection with the alleged murder of 33-year-old Renukaswamy.

Key Points

• Actor Darshan’s Arrest: Darshan was taken into custody for his alleged involvement in Renukaswamy’s murder.

• Claims of VIP Treatment: He was transferred to Ballari Prison, sparking concerns over possible VIP treatment.

• Bail on Medical Grounds: The court granted him six weeks of bail for medical reasons.

On Wednesday, the Karnataka High Court permitted Darshan a six-week bail to undergo medical treatment, specifically for spine surgery. Darshan’s legal team submitted medical reports indicating he was experiencing numbness in both feet, necessitating surgery at a private facility in Mysuru, which he will finance himself.

This decision, granting temporary relief, allows Darshan to remain outside of custody for medical care, subject to any conditions imposed by the court.

Background of the Renukaswamy Murder Case

Darshan was arrested in June alongside several others linked to Renukaswamy’s death. Following his initial detention in Bengaluru, he was moved to Ballari Prison amid allegations of receiving preferential treatment.

The murder reportedly stemmed from a dispute involving messages Renukaswamy allegedly sent to co-accused Pavithra Gowda, a friend of Darshan. Police claim Darshan orchestrated an attack on Renukaswamy, who was found dead near a storm drain in Sumanahalli on June 9. Another accused, Raghavendra, allegedly lured Renukaswamy to a shed in RR Nagar, where he was reportedly tortured and killed. The post-mortem attributed Renukaswamy’s death to shock and hemorrhage resulting from multiple blunt force injuries.
