“Actor Vijay Launches Political Journey: Unveils ‘Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam’ Ahead of 2024 Elections”
Tamil actor Vijay has officially stepped into the political arena by announcing the formation of his political party, which he named ‘Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam.’ This announcement comes ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, signifying Vijay’s intent to play a role in the political landscape of Tamil Nadu.
In his statement on February 2, Vijay revealed that his party would not participate in the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Instead, he disclosed plans to contest the 2026 Assembly polls. He emphasized the seriousness of his commitment to politics, stating, “Politics is not a hobby for me; it is my deepest passion, and I want to devote myself fully to it.”
The actor clarified that his party wouldn’t align with any political group in the 2024 elections. This decision was made after a General and Executive Council Meeting, with the primary focus being on preparing for the 2026 elections. The party aims to finalize details such as the symbol, flag, ideologies, policies, and strategies after receiving approval from the Election Commission of India.
Vijay acknowledged that the process of registering the party had begun, and they were mindful of the time required for formalities. He expressed his commitment to engaging fully in politics, ensuring minimal disruption to his film-related duties. The actor mentioned that this commitment is his way of repaying the people of Tamil Nadu for the love, name, fame, and wealth they have bestowed upon him.
Addressing the existing political scenario, Vijay stated that while the Vijay Makkal Iyakkam, a non-profit organization associated with him, has been involved in public welfare activities, political influence is crucial for substantial change. He highlighted the need for a political force to address issues like wrongful administration, corruption, and divisive politics in the region.
The announcement of Vijay’s political entry prompted spontaneous celebrations among his fans. The party aims to focus on selfless, truthful politics, devoid of caste and religious differences, in line with the principles of the Indian Constitution. Vijay expressed gratitude to the people of Tamil Nadu, stating, “After my father and mother, the Tamil people are the ones who have given me everything, including my name, fame, and money. Tamizhaga Vetri Kazhagam will be the party led by me.”
Party leaders have already submitted the bylaws and structure of the party to register it with the Election Commission of India. Vijay’s foray into Tamil Nadu politics follows a legacy of high-profile entries from the cinema industry, including figures like Kamal Haasan, MG Ramachandran, and Sivaji Ganesan.
