Dr. M.A. Saleem Appointed as New DG & IGP of Karnataka

Bengaluru, May 21:

In a significant administrative development, the Government of Karnataka has appointed Dr. M.A. Saleem, a 1993-batch IPS officer, as the new Director General and Inspector General of Police (DG&IGP) of the state. He takes over from Dr. Alok Mohan, a 1987-batch IPS officer, who officially retired from service on May 21, 2025.

With this appointment, Dr. Saleem becomes the 42nd head of the Karnataka Police Force.

Prior to this role, Dr. Saleem served as the Director General of Police, Criminal Investigation Department (Special Units & Economic Offences). He has also held the position of Special Commissioner (Traffic), Bengaluru City, where he earned widespread recognition for his forward-thinking and innovative approach to traffic management.

An academic as well as an administrator, Dr. Saleem holds a PhD from Bangalore University on the topic “Traffic management in metropolitan cities: A framework to provide sustainable strategies to overcome traffic congestion and ensure greater safety on road” (2010). His research reflects his deep commitment to improving urban mobility and safety.

His appointment is being viewed positively by many in the law enforcement community and civil society alike, especially considering his extensive experience in both operational policing and administrative leadership.
